The design concept of the Extension to the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business main campus building aims at providing an innovative learning environment which fosters interaction and collaboration between otherwise disparate disciplines apart from formal classroom activities.
The Stadium stairs and Atrium form the focal point of the building. The combination of the two storey ceiling height, the large void around the first floor, the surrounding glass balustrade leading down the stadium stairs serve to visually and physically connect the two floors.
The stadium stairs provide very informal seating and casual space for students. However, when the stairs are combined with the Atrium floor, multiple seating configurations are achieved for the more formal assemblies. Working in close collaboration with the ALJGSB technical team, audio-visual systems were incorporated into each open space and enclosed classroom. Devices include smart screens, wi-fi, interactive cameras, speakers and electrical charging ports.
